What a great idea for a costume! To come as a painting, but to add the brush strokes to your own skin and clothes. This one is of Vincent Van Gogh, but you could really do it with any painting, like the Adeline Ravoux painting on the bottom left and the Portrait of the Artist’s Mother on the bottom right.

This was one of my favorite costumes to both put together and wear. Princess Azula from Avatar: The Last Airbender is such an awesome villain.

Who cares if you aren’t a dude? If you’ve got short hair you can totally rock this Harry Potter costume. And even if you don’t, you can always get a wig.

With a Marie Antoinette costume you really have a lot of options, but I think the two key things are a big dress and big hair.

These costumes cracked me up when I saw them, because even if you don’t go with the framed version, you could still go as the women portrayed in the paintings. Especially The Girl With a Pearl Earring. The Mona Lisa might be a little harder to pull off without the frame.

Whether or not you have your own Richie Tenebaum to go with you, Margot Tenenbaum would make a really great and simple costume. One fur coat, one cigarette, one red barrette, and one constant scowl is all you need to bring to life this character from The Royal Tenenbaums.

There’s really only 4 ingredients to making this Darla from Finding Nemo costume work. Little girl clothes, pigtails, headgear, and a fish in a bag.

I’ve seen several renditions of Mary Poppins and often with Burt, the chimney sweep. Whether or not you choose to bring along a poorly accented Cockney sidekick, there are a ton of possibilities with this costume, and what a great movie.

I’m gonna be honest. I’m not a huge fan of Beetlejuice, but I think this costume’s pretty rad. And quite a commitment to paint your skin a sickly turquoise color as Miss Argentina.

I thought this pop art/comic book art style was really neat. Just be careful you don’t end up looking like you have the measles when applying the dots.
